This well-preserved leaflet coded "30-J-1" was produced by the Psychological Warfare Branch of the U.S. Army. It was dropped by U.S. forces on Japanese troops in the Philippines, but was also "suitable for dropping to Japanese civilians." The illustration on the front of the leaflet shows the progression of American forces cutting off the supply routes between Japan and the Philippines.
The back of the leaflet contains Japanese text and is accompanied by an additional page with the official English translation. A portion of this text is shown below (see images for complete text):
"The power of the American forces in the Philippines is growing stronger every day. The American navy is reaching its might across the sea as far as Thailand and French Indo-China."
"The Japanese navy - even the 'wild eagles' who should guard the skies - hardly show their figures these days."
"The 'Treasure House of the South Seas,' which was so depended upon by the military, now becomes useless."
