This well-preserved leaflet coded "22-J-1" was produced by the Psychological Warfare Branch of the U.S. Army. It was dropped by U.S. forces on Japanese troops in the Philippines, especially on Luzon. The illustration on the front of the leaflet depicts a Japanese solider watching idly as a fierce U.S. aerial attack takes place.
The back of the leaflet contains Japanese text and is accompanied by an additional page with the official English translation. A portion of this text is shown below (see images for complete text):
"You fought hard and courageously, yet within three months after the Americas landed in the Philippines they had advanced to the very heard of the Islands - Manilla."
"Is it not another blunder on the part of your military leaders who, by blunder after blunder, have brought Japan to the very brink of disaster?"
