This World War II map of the European theater of war presents the route of the ADSEC, or Advance Section of the Communications Zone. This unit served as the logistics arm to the U.S. Army and was the first U.S. logistical agency to reach the European mainland. The map shows the path of this unit, arriving first in Catz and then making its way to Paris, Rheims, Bonn and beyond. Illustrations along the route highlight some of the unit's accomplishments including the construction of roads, bridges and hospitals. Additional illustrations include a scene of celebration in Paris balanced by the death and destruction at the "The Bulge." In the background, Allied bombers head to Europe while white-coated Nazi soldiers surrender in the foreground. The composition is completed by a decorative title cartouche and compass rose. The map was created by the unit's engineering department under the direction of Brigadier General Ewart G. Plank.
