This uncommon map of the Caribbean is copied from the Thomas Jefferys map of the same title from 1768, itself derived from his larger format 1760 map. It shows the colonial holdings of Britain, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark after the Treaty of Paris in 1763, by way of a lettered key at left. Southern Florida is shown with large, interconnected waterways effectively turning the region into an archipelago. The ornate title cartouche at top right incorporates windheads, ships, and maritime imagery. One of the only maps from Middleton's geography that does not credit Thomas Bowen as mapmaker.
