This rare map shows the extinct lakes of the Valley of Mexico. It was published in the second volume of the English translation of Francesco Saverio Clavigero's Storia Antica del Messico (1780-81). It names lakes Tezcuco (Texcoco), Chalco, Xaltocan, Tzompanco (Zumpango), and Xochimilco. The altepeme of Tenochtitlan and Tlatelolco are located on an island in Lake Texcoco. Floating gardens, insulated hamlet, and salt pits are also located within the large lake. Surrounding towns and cities are identified. Engraved by Conder.
