This colorful advertising map was drawn by Jim Balkovek, produced by Susskind & Associates, and printed by San Rafael Graphics. It extends from the present-day marina area east along University Avenue to the Berkeley campus and Tilden Park. The map is absolutely filled with advertisements for all types of local businesses including Berkeley Square, Sam's Gigantic Burger, Poulet Delicatessen, Blue-Gold Market, and the Map Center (!). Playful illustrations fill the pockets of this busy map including Oski (the UC-B bear mascot), a "Berkeley or Bust" UFO, and a breakdance competition complete with boombox. A fun and informative look at this East Bay city before the technology boom took over.

Balkovek was an active artist and illustrator in Northern California for over twenty years and contributed over 150 books, videos, and advertisements.
