This attractive map of the Americas is based upon a mural created by painter N.C. Wyeth which decorated Hubbard Memorial Hall, the National Geographic Society's first formal library. While the map is based upon modern information and political boundaries, the style and decorative elements are characteristic of 16th-century maps including depictions of Poseidon, putti, the sailing ships of various explorers, and a sea monster in the Antarctic Circle. The murals also served as the frontispiece to the March, May, July, November, and December magazine issues from 1928; this was the last in the series, appearing in the December 1928 issue.
