This vellum indenture serves as testament to the transferal of ownership of a house and garden in Whitburn with an adjoining piece of land that measures 20 yards from north to south and 5-6 yards from east to west. The house and property belonged to the late William Forster and was inherited by his nephew, George Forster, of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, who surrendered the property "into the hands of the lord," thereby allowing it to be transferred to Edward Preston of Whitburn. Signed on April 30, 1789 by John Griffith, Deputy Clerk of the Halmot Court. The indenture includes a blue tax stamp.
