This small but beautifully detailed map is based on the work of Antonio Galvao (ca. 1490-1557), a Portuguese historian who served as an adminstrator in the Maluku islands and wrote a history of the islands. It covers India and Southeast Asia, with nice detail of the islands of the Philippines and Indonesia. A decorative title cartouche at bottom left depicts several ships firing on a fortress on land. The map appeared in the Dutch translation of the travels of Nuno da Cunha that was published in Van der Aa's compendium De Aanmerkens-Waardige Voyagien door Francoisen, Italiaanen, Deenen, Hoogduytsen en Andere Vreemde Volkeren Gedaan na Oost- en West-Ind (1706). Cunha was the Governor of Portuguese India from 1529 to 1538. The map was originally issued on a sheet with another map.
