This well-preserved leaflet coded "24-J-1" was produced by the Psychological Warfare Branch of the U.S. Army. It was dropped by U.S. forces on Japanese troops and civilians "anywhere," though principally aimed at Japanese troops following the fall of Manila. The map on the front of the leaflet shows Luzon with Manila circled at lower right and large block arrows extending out to the north and west giving distances to China, Taiwan and Japan.
The back of the leaflet contains Japanese text and is accompanied by an additional page with the official English translation. A portion of this text is shown below (see images for complete text):
"For three years the Japanese military leaders knew that the American offensive was aimed at Manila. They had plenty of time to prepare for the defense of the city."
"Yet, once the American forces launched their attack, the city fell easily."
