This map drawn by Alois Derso & Emery Kelen is a satirical take on Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels where Gulliver is shipwrecked on the island of Lilliput, whose inhabitants are all six inches tall. In this version, Gulliver is replaced by Hitler, who is sprawling out over the European continent. Italian leader Benito Mussolini is shown perched like a bird on Hitler's finger while Polish foreign minister Jozef Beck provides shade with an umbrella. On the left, several Western leaders study documents placed on Hitler's hat while on the right several eastern European leaders are involved in an elaborate song and dance. In the foreground various French prime ministers and foreign secretaries play leapfrog (reflecting their short stints in their roles) while Lord Halifax declares to British Prime Minister Chamberlain "Don't be afraid, I know him personally...He is a vegetarian!" The verso features additional full-page illustrations of Lord Halifax ("Puff Adder of British Policy") and German Joseph Goebbels ("Ringmaster of the Reich's Culture Circus"). This map was created shortly after Hitler's annexation of Austria, which was an important early step in his expansionist policies (and aggressions) in Europe.
