A lovely set of charts covering the eastern coast of Scotland. Each chart features excellent detail along the coastlines including cities and towns, rivers, soundings, shoals and anchorages. North is oriented to the right on the first three charts.
A. Nieuwe Pascaert van de Oost Cust van Schotlandt Beginnende van Barwyck tot aen de Orcades Ylanden..., by Johannes van Keulen, (23.0 x 20.3"). An attractive chart covering most of the eastern coastline of Scotland, extending from Berwick to the Orkney Islands, including the cities of Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Adorned by two compass roses, a sailing ship, sea monster, and decorative title and distance scale cartouches.
B. Nieuwe en Seer Perfecte Paskaart van Schotlandt ... van Berwyk tot Bokannais / A New and Pertinent Map of the Eastern Sea-Coasts of Scotland ... Cost of Berwik till Bokaness, by Gerard van Keulen, (24.0 x 20.7"). A detailed view of the coastline from Berwick to Edinburgh, St. Andrews, Dundee and more. Insets at top right show the South Esk River at Montrose, and a second inset continues the chart north to Aberdeen and Peterhead. Based upon a chart by John Marr. Lavishly decorated with compass roses, sailing ships, coat of arms, and title cartouche incorporating the distance scale.
C. Afteekening van de Noord Oost hoek van Schotland Vertoonende the Firth of Murray, en daar in de Riviere Invernness, Cromertie, Tarbet of Tayne..., by Gerard van Keulen (23.3 x 20.2"). This detailed chart begins around Burghead and follows the coast to Nairn and Helmsdale. An inset at top continues the map to beyond Wick. A second inset at lower left details the vicinity of Wick.
D. De Rivier van Edenburgh [on sheet with] Afteekening van Nieuw en Oud Aberdeene aan de Oostkust van Schotland, by Gerard van Keulen, (11.4 x 19.7"). Two charts featuring good detail of the vicinity around both Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Features a nice illustration of the Port of Leith at top.
