This map is roughly centered on Lago de Maracaibo and includes portions of Colombia and Venezuela, as well as the islands of Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire. Margarita, Trinidad, and the Grenadines. The locations of numerous settlements are noted along the coast, including Cartagena, Santa Marta, Maracaibo and Coro. Decorated with a simple floral cartouche. From a German edition of Prevost's l'Histoire Generale des Voyages. Condition: Issued folding on a bright sheet with a bunch of grapes watermark. There is a small ink spot at right and a light damp stain in the bottom of the image. (B+)

B. Carte des Provinces de Caracas, Comana , et Paria, Situees dans l'Amerique Meridionale. Pour l'Histoire Generale des Voyages, by Bellin/Van Schley, circa 1754 (11.4 x 7.7"). Delicately engraved map of the northeastern part of Venezuela, including the islands of Margarita, Trinidad, and the Grenadines. The locations of numerous settlements along the Venezuelan coast are noted, including Valencia, Caracas, and Cumana. The simple title cartouche also incorporates a distance scale, and longitude is given in upper border from the Isle de Fer and below from Paris. Alternate Dutch title appears below the neatline: Kaart van de Provintien Caracas, Comana, en Paria, in Zuid-Amerika Geleegen. Condition: A nice impression, issued folding on a bright sheet with a small fleur-de-lis watermark. (A+)
