This rare geological map of Michigan promotes the extensive land grants along the Jackson, Lansing & Saginaw Railroad. The completed section of the railroad runs from Jackson to Gaylord (Otsego County) with proposed lines extending to Mackinaw City and Cheboygan. The grants apparently extend 30 miles on each side of the line "in a section of the state not surpassed for salubrity of climate, fertility of soil, abundance of valuable timber and conveniences of markets." Bands of color throughout the state highlight various geological types (not counties as the title indicates) including coals, limestone and sandstone. This map was presumably issued separately for promotional purposes, encouraging development along the line. Asher & Adams utilized Alexander Winchell’s 1865 “Geological Map of Michigan” as its base map. We found no past sales records for this map and only one example on OCLC (Library of Michigan). Not listed in Karpinski or Marcou & Marcou.
