This decorative double hemisphere map from a Dutch bible is based on Visscher's similar map of 1663. The surrounding allegorical representations of the continents were copied from Visscher, but the map has been updated to show California as an island with a flat northern coastline, Australia's western and northern coastlines, a revision in the coastline for New Guinea, and the addition of some islands in the South Pacific. Diagrams of the Copernican and Ptolemaic solar systems rest between the hemispheres. This is the smaller version of this world map, without the banner title. Dutch text on verso.

This is apparently an unrecorded state of Stoopendaal's map, in which the area below the crocodile and lion has cross-hatching. In all other editions this area is either blank or includes D. Stoopendaal Fec, which is often barely visible and worn away from the plate. It is unclear where this plate fits in with the other 3 states of Daniel Stoopendaal's plate, which are in clear chronological order:

1. D. Stoopendaal Fec is clearly visible below the crocodile and lion (published around 1704-1710)
2. The surrounding allegorical images have been re-engraved, with the area below the crocodile and lion blank, and D. Stoopendaal Fec is only faintly visible (published around 1716-19)
3. The plate is very worn, the area below the crocodile and lion is still blank with Stoopendaal's imprint no longer visible, and the bottom right corner of the plate has broken off (published around 1730-36)

It is unlikely that this unrecorded state is a newly engraved plate, as the engraving is identical to states 2 and 3, with the exception only of the cross-hatching below the crocodile and lion. It is also unlikely that this example was published after state 3, as the bottom right corner of the plate is intact and there are no visible repairs to the plate. The most likely scenario is that it was published just after state 2, because state 2 still has the imprint faintly visible. But it is curious that the last state, with the broken plate corner, no longer has any cross-hatching below the animals. We have included an image of the three known states compared to this unrecorded state to illustrate the differences.
