It provides information on the principal map makers and publishers throughout the history of cartography. Published by B.T. Batsford Ltd. 140 pp. with 104 illustrations, with some in color. Hardbound in orange cloth with gilt titles on spine and a dust jacket. Condition: Contents are slightly toned with some light scattered foxing. Covers have minor shelf wear. This work is a concise history of cartography, with an examination of the major European cartographers from the 14th to the 18th centuries. The book also discusses printing and coloring techniques, restoration, identification, starting a collection, and includes a glossary of map makers. Illustrated with more than 130 images (some in color), 157 pages. First American edition, published by The MacMillan Co. Hardbound in red cloth with gilt title on spine and illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Contents are clean and tight. Covers have minor shelf wear. Dust jacket is lightly sunned with a couple small chips. (A)

This reference serves as a comprehensive history of the great pioneers in cartography from antiquity to the Space Age. It traces the discoveries and technical ingenuity used in mapping first the surface of the globe, then the earth's interior, the oceans' floors, and finally the moon and the planets. 39 black and white illustrations. 414 pages including a bibliography and index. Hardbound with an illustrated dust jacket. Condition: A few pages are slightly creased along the top edge, otherwise near fine. (A)
