This volume contains 25 (of 26) issues of the Niles' Weekly Register, covering the period from September 1833 to March 1834 (lacks issue #22). The volume contains three significant articles: 1) “Col. Crockett” announcing Davy Crockett’s reelection to Congress and describing him in the most glowing terms (p. 20); 2) A letter describing Stephen Austin’s success in obtaining Mexican government approval to allow what was becoming a “great immigration” to Texas from the U.S. (p. 309); 3) “‘Regulating’ the Mormonites,” describing the aggressive effort of the Jackson County, Missouri residents to expel the growing Mormon population, including the destruction of the Mormon newspaper office. The report was the most extensive article yet on the Mormons in Niles Weekly and provided the eastern readership the first glimpse of a possible religious war on the frontier (pp. 47-48). Two issues (#17 and #19) lack an eight-page addition and another issue (#8) lacks pages 117-124. Hardbound in contemporary quarter leather and tips over marbled boards.
