This map was originally published as a globe half-gore, or calotte, and was featured on one of Coronelli's largest globes, a 3.5 foot terrestrial globe. This version, with text added below the map and on verso, was issued less than a decade later in his Isolario. The map covers northern Australia and portions of Indonesia including southeastern Borneo, southern Sulawesi, and Papua. Detail is mostly limited to the coastlines while northern Australia is filled with fanciful depictions of an elephant, deer, and natives. A large notation in the interior states that "some believe Marco Polo discovered the country of Lochac in this place." On a full sheet of Italian text (14.0 x 19.3").

Vincenzo Coronelli was Italy's most esteemed cartographer and globe-maker, having produced over 500 maps and globes over his illustrious career. A member of the Franciscan order, he also founded the society Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti.
