This fascinating engraving depicts a grand battle between four princes of the Mughal Empire. Aurangzeb was the last of the great Mughal emperors and the empire reached its largest geographical size under his rule (1658-1707). After his death the empire entered a long decline while the British and French supported rival princes in numerous internal wars. The engraving presents a large and elaborate battle scene featuring cavalry, canons, and armored elephants. French text panels flank the scene.
