Beautifully engraved folio sheet with a three-panel engraving featuring the Chinese Emperor flanked by two of his lovely concubines. The engravings are particularly interesting because they depict the elaborate interior furnishings of the palace and fine clothing of the royal class. Panels of French text below.
B. Description d'un des Plus Fameux Temples des Chinois, avec leurs Principales Idoles Telles que la Figure en a ete Tiree sur les Lieux & Envoiee a Rome par le Pere Grubere Iesuite. An interesting folio sheet with three engravings illustrating Chinese religion. The central panel is of a pagoda in the Province of Fokien, which is flanked by two drawings of Chinese divinities. Sharp impressions on bright sheets with the Strasbourg bend and lily watermark, minor soiling, and a few small worm holes in the blank margins. There are archivally repaired centerfold separations at the bottom of each sheet.
