This charming and rare atlas includes 32 miniature maps of France and its provinces, and was designed as a travel guide. The maps are engraved by Quad and are close copies of Filips Galle's maps for the miniature edition of Ortelius' Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. This atlas was first published in 1600 with 30 maps, and was enlarged to 32 maps for the second edition in 1603. Quad published several similar travel guides for Germany, Italy and Spain. Published in Frankfurt by Sigismundus Latomus. Oblong Duodecimo with 32 maps, title page, index, and 64 pp. text. Bound in full contemporary vellum with manuscript title on spine and evidence of leather ties, which are no longer present.

Condition: A
The maps are dark impressions on bright sheets. The text is lightly toned and soiled. The covers are soiled and worn with a chip at top left. The original leather ties are no longer present.
