American artist James Daugherty designed and drew this magnificent Art Deco double-hemisphere world map. The map reflects an American optimism about the possibility of enduring world peace a decade after the end of the First World War, with a quote from Isaiah 2:4 above a white dove: "Nation Shall Not Lift Up Sword Against Nation Neither Shall They Learn War Any More." Surrounding the map are the flags of the nations of the world. The map itself is simply rendered, only showing the new national boundaries with decorative elements in the oceans such as compass roses, ships, whales, and a sea monster. The elaborate and ornate outer border depicts civilization's progress from the time of prehistoric man and dinosaurs to the triumph of the modern industrial age. Cartography is credited to Mercedes Clifton, Joseph de Felice, G.J. Harris, and Charles Rosner. Published by the Historical Map Society.
