This lovely small map covers central and western Mexico. Mexico City is located on the banks of a large, hourglass-shaped lake, and numerous gold and silver mines are scattered across the map. A note appears under a cluster of mountains in the unengraved northern part of the map: His montibus maxima argenti copia effoditur (roughly: "In these mountains, the largest sum of silver was excavated"). Adorned by a strapwork title cartouche. Blank verso. Published in Henri Du Sauzet's 1734 edition of the Mercator/Cloppenburg atlas, as indicated by the lack of hatching in the sea and the page number 265 at top right.
