This superb cartoonish map of Los Angeles was created by Robbie Nyman in a three-dimensional, "floating landmark style" that focused on key locations with little regard to geographical accuracy. Locations such as LAX, MGM Studios, the Hollywood Park racetrack, Griffith Observatory, the Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Stadium, and key hotels are depicted. The roadways in between the landmarks are filled with bumper-to-bumper cars. This map was published by Trans Continental Cartographers in Vancouver, British Columbia, which created over 30 poster maps of cities across Canada and the United States between 1969-74. The maps were published on a subscription model, in which advertising revenue was solicited from businesses in a given city prior to the creation of the map, and these businesses were then given prominent placement on the map. This map of Los Angeles was primarily sponsored by Utter McKinley Mortuary, Avis Car Rental, and Robinson's, a department store chain, and their business locations are indicated with prominent signs throughout the map.
