This is a later edition of Chase's elaborate map of the United States published in the April 25, 1954 issue of The Philadelphia Inquirer. The map was first issued in 1941. Hornsby notes that Chase "played to patriotic feeling in this immensely detailed view of the United States" and places a particular emphasis on illustrating grand structures including each of the state's capitol buildings. Other important buildings, industry, natural resources, points of interest, and copious notations fill out the map. Surrounding the main map are 53 additional illustrations with the country's natural wonders in the corners including the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Old Faithful and Yosemite Falls. The composition is further decorated by an elaborate compass rose, decorative border, and title cartouche featuring a pair of bald eagles resting on U.S. banners (deconstructed views of the Great Seal). Unrelated illustrations on verso.
