This lot features two pocket maps of Houston by J. Foster Ashburn:
A. Ashburn's Houston City Map, dated 1957, printed color (27.0 x 20.1"). A highly detailed street map of Houston that extends to include Jacinto City, Pasadena, South Houston, and Bellaire. "Proposed City Limits" are shown in red overprinting extending beyond most of these adjoining municipalities. Concentric circles radiate from downtown. Decorated by a title cartouche at top right featuring the city skyline. There is a detailed street index on verso and advertisements for Westheimer Transfer and Storage Company. Condition: There are several short splits at the fold junctions and a couple of small stains. (B+)
B. Ashburn's Houston City Map, dated 1955, black & white (24.3 x 18.3"). A slightly smaller version of the above map in black & white, which is unusual for an Ashburn map. The verso contains a street index, various advertisements for Bekins Van & Storage Company, and a large photographic image of the Sam Houston Monument on the front wrapper.
