The Gentleman's Magazine published several versions of Scull and Heap's important map of 1750. This Pre-Revolutionary War issue is the less common edition that contains the table of distances below the cartouche, as opposed to the more commonly seen map published in 1777 (#GENT-256). The map holds special value as a historical document because it shows the names of owners of estates and farms outside the city. German Town, for instance, is denoted by a double row of houses. Extends to Oxford Church in the north, the Merrion Meeting (Hall) and Derby in the west, and Boons Island, Gloucester, and the Point House to the south. Decorated by a rococo-style title cartouche and compass rose with fleur-de-lis. Published in the August 1753 issue of the Gentleman's Magazine.
