This pictorial map celebrating 300 years of settlement in Connecticut was drawn by John Held for the Aetna Casualty & Surety Company in Hartford. While it shows towns, cities, and the principal roads in the state, its primary feature is the abundance of historical data including "George Washington's Travels" by dotted line and 33 historical events/locations that are keyed to the map and accompanied by small vignette illustrations. The map is further decorated with classical elements including sailing ships, a compass rose, and an ornate border. The verso is filled with historical sketches of the state’s seventeen original towns. Self-folding into pictorial wrappers.
