This interesting and unusual uncut sheet contains four examples each of Sketch of the Passage of the Rio San Gabriel, Upper California... and Sketch of the Actions Fought at San Pascal in Upper California... These individual maps were issued in a congressional report concerning the Mexican-American War and display troop positions and actions in Southern California. The first map shows American troops advancing across the Rio San Gabriel and the resulting withdrawal of Mexican forces. The second depicts the battle between Kearny's troops and those of Mexican Major Andres Pico. Once reinforcements arrived, Kearny was able to push Pico's troops south and reach San Diego. These are two of four small maps that were included in the report.
This is the first time we have seen these maps in an uncut format, making for an interesting addition to any Western map collection.
