This rudimentary Italian map of the world reflects a lack of knowledge in northwestern North America, with the California coastline connected to Hudson Bay, thereby creating a Northwest Passage. In the South Pacific, New Zealand is only partially delineated, and Tasmania is still connected to Australia.
