This lovely engraving of wood strawberries is Plate 77 and was created by Elizabeth Blackwell and published in her A Curious Herbal, which included 500 plates of plants with detailed information on their medicinal properties. Blackwell began her work creating this herbal as a way to earn income after her husband was sent to debtors prison. Her work served as a valuable resource for doctors and apothecaries, and was the first herbal to be published in Europe by a woman. Included with the engraving is part of a leaf from the volume with information regarding wood strawberries.
