This colorful pictorial map of Scotland was one of the earliest entries in the series of "Story Maps" published by Colortext Publications in Chicago between 1935-50. It is the second of two designs, this one distinguished most notably by the compass rose and vignette of "Edina, Scotia's Darling Seat" replacing the coat of arms of the house of Stewarts at bottom left. The landscape on the map is dense with small illustrations highlighting Scottish history and culture, with miniature portraits of Sir Walter Scott, Mary Queen of Scots, Bonnie Prince Charlie, Rob Roy MacGregor, Robert Burns, and James Hogg. The map is surrounded by a border comprised of the tartans of 46 Scottish clans. The strapwork title cartouche is capped by the royal coat of arms of Scotland. This example is an unusual variant with red overprinting naming mountains and hills.
