This collection of twenty maps consists of 2 large folding maps, 15 smaller folding maps, and 3 single page maps that were used as exhibits in the Supreme Court case, Morris v. United States. The case related to property right claims by the land owners adjacent to a large area reclaimed by dredging and filling along the Potomac River. The reclaimed area amounted to over 600 acres west of the Washington Monument and south of Constitution Avenue that today includes the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial and Potomac Park. The Supreme Court ruled in 1899 that the property owners adjacent to the reclamation had no rights to the reclaimed land. The maps include:

A. Map of the City of Washington Showing the Plan for the Reclamation of the Marshes on the Potomac River Front, by W.J. Twining, dated 1882 (28.3 x 19.0").
B. Harbors of Washington and Georgetown, D.C. Map Showing Proposed Improvement..., by S.T. Abert, dated 1882 (30.3 x 15.9").
C. [Fifteen small folding maps of various sizes and three single page maps.]
