This colorful pictorial map by W.F. McIlwraith shows the course of the Oregon Trail from Westport, Kansas to Oregon City. It presents the rugged topography of the Rocky Mountains with a three-dimensional effect, impending storm clouds over the Great Plains, and stampeding bison in Colorado. Other western trails are noted on the map including the Mormon, Bozeman, and California trails. The map is surrounded by elaborate wagon train scenes, state seals and notable pioneers, and is further decorated by an elaborate title cartouche featuring an explorer, miner and the Great Seal of the United States. Originally published in 1932, this is the 1966 reissue complete with its original mailing tube.
