This scarce volume includes 6 monthly editions of The Monthly Anthology, and Boston Review for the period January – June 1810. Of particular interest is an editorial note about the official Lewis & Clark account, indicating the “indifference of the publick, and the very small number of subscribers…[to publishing the account] was one of the causes that led to [Capt. Lewis’] unfortunate death” (page 283). The editor had been aware of previous publication plans. In an 1807 issue the editor reported that Lewis had announced preparation of a three-volume octavo account of the expedition and that subscriptions were being solicited. This volume also contains a review (taken from the Eclectic Review) of the Hubbard Lester unauthorized 1809 London publication of the “Lewis and Clark Travels.” 432 pages. Published by T.B. Wait in Boston. Hardbound in quarter leather with tips over marbled boards.
