This lovely title page was issued in the second volume of Jansson's Atlas Novus, containing maps of France, Switzerland, and Spain. The title page was originally issued in 1642 with French King Louis XIII and Queen Anne, but the editions published from 1644 onward replaced those figures with a knight and a queen with the Merovingian coat of arms. The present example was issued circa 1650 with the date removed from the publisher's imprint. On this example, the title is blank; it was common practice for the decorative engraving to be printed without the atlas title, which was then adhered at the time of publication.
