This map is well engraved and displays early western territorial boundaries. The huge Nebraska Territory stretches between Minnesota to Oregon and Washington territories at the continental divide, and south to Kansas. The large Kansas Territory borders Utah and New Mexico at the Continental Divide and there is no mention of Colorado or of any early towns therein. Utah and New Mexico are both shown in their largest configurations. The map is filled with details and place names, forts, Indian tribes, the emigrant roads, and more. Several exploration routes are shown, including those of Fremont, Marcy, and Kearney. The road described in Seven Years Residence is highlighted with red hand coloring over the engraved line. Abbe Emmanuel Henri Dieudonne Domenech produced a scholarly work with his earlier Missionary Adventures in Texas and Mexico. The roads shown on this map and described in the book were never actually traveled by Domenech, but were only described by the author. Ironically enough, in the book Seven Years Residence he expresses his disdain for 'arm chair travelers,' as a superb display of hypocrisy. The map was drawn and engraved in 1860 by "P. Binetaeu geographer."
