This rare and beautifully engraved view of Lyon is surrounded by an ornate architectural border, which was printed from a separate plate. In the foreground are a number of figures on the shore of the river, loading barrels onto a vessel, guiding a horse, or relaxing. The city can be seen across the river, with Fourviere, "the hill that prays," prominent in the center of the engraving. Two bridges lead into the city, and a few vessels fill the water.
