"Midsummer's Marvels",

This map by Russell Collinge showcases the robust summer Broadway scene in New England. Cities that offer theater programs during the summer are marked with stars, with an inset extending the map to include parts of the Mid-Atlantic. Humorous illustrations and quips fill the map, such as: a moth-filled chest depicting the "Theater of Revivals" in Long Island; Broadway director Milton Stiefel "looking for talent" in the grass in Connecticut with a magnifying glass; a flower labeled "Matrimony Pfd." and noted as "a common summer variety;" and a mermaid on Nomans Land island with the note "ideal spot for permanent company of 'The Women.'" This double-page map is part of a 16-page section of Stage Magazine that includes a double-page advertisement for Grace Line cruises. The ad (19.8 x 14.0") features a large map of the western hemisphere showing the rail-water trips from New York to California and numerous locations in Central and South America.
