"Plan de la Ville de Barcelone et Chateau de Mont Iuy avec les Approches de l'Armee de France...", Beek, Anna

This scarce bird's-eye plan shows the April 1706 Siege of Barcelona during the War of Spanish Succession. After being captured by Carlos Archduke of Austria in 1705, a Franco-Spanish army sought to regain control of the city under the command of Philip V and René de Froulay, Comte de Tessé. The Franco-Spanish army abandoned their efforts when an English squadron of ships arrived to reinforce the city in support of the Archduke. This plan shows the locations and movements of the Franco-Spanish armies, identified by a lettered key. The fort near the rocky coastline includes a flap that can be opened to show the difference in the fort from the beginning to the end of the siege. The English fleet of ships is shown in the harbor.

Anna Beek published several maps and plans of battlefields and sieges during the War of Succession between 1697-1717. She did not published any specific atlas, but her plans appeared in composite atlases and other publisher's atlases such as Visscher's War Atlas.

A nice impression with full contemporary color, light soiling, and a centerfold separation at bottom that has been partially repaired with non-archival tape on verso. There is a chip at top right that enters about 2" into the image that has been repaired with the image replaced in facsimile. Despite these imperfections, the map presents itself very well.
