It lists 249 maps, with an additional six in celestial charts, seventeen on title pages, and one on a silver medal. It is indexed by title and by name, including cartographers, engravers, and publishers. Most of the entries are accompanied by black and white illustrations. 134 pages plus appendices, bound in soft pictorial covers. Condition: Contents near fine. There is light wear to the covers. This terrific book on the island of California is illustrated throughout with detailed reproductions of historical maps, and combines history, geography, and cartography with literature and fantastic mythology. Hardbound in burgundy cloth with gilt titling on spine and a dust jacket protected by Mylar. Condition: Near fine. (A)
