A. Early Sea Charts, by Robert Putman, published 1983 (12.1 x 15.4"). This book examines sea charts from the 14th to 18th centuries, with good commentary on each map. 143 pages, with 76 plates, full-page and double-page reproductions of sea charts in full color and black and white text illustrations. Hardbound in blue cloth with blind-stamped title on front cover and gilt-stamped spine title, illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Contents are very good. Corners are slightly bumped, and the pastedown on the back cover has come unglued. Dust jacket has a bit of wear and soiling. (B+)

B. The Sea Chart, by Derek Howse and Michael Sanderson, published 1973 (8.9 x 11.2"). An excellent history of nautical charts, based on the collection of the National Maritime Museum of Greenwich. This useful and interesting history of marine cartography has illustrated examples from 1420 to 1971, with the majority predating 1800. Sixty plates of sea charts, some in color with accompanying essays. 144 pages. Hardbound in red cloth with an illustrated dust jacket protected by Mylar. Condition: There is faint toning along the edges of text and minor shelf wear to the covers. (A)
