"Official Centennial Map of Texas - Daughters of the Republic of Texas",

This map was conceived by Curtiss Pruett and created by Guy F. Calhoun to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Texas' independence. Although the official anniversary wasn't until 1936, centennial fever began several years earlier with merchandise marketed for the event. The map shows important historical events, routes, cities, points of interest, wildlife, and Native Indians. Surrounding the map are nine large portraits of important heroes of the Texas Revolution: Stephen F. Austin (Father of Texas); Mirabeau Lamar (Father of Texas Education); Anson Jones (Architect of Annexation); Colonel James Fannin (Commander at Goliad); Ben Milan (Who will go with Old Ben Milan into San Antonio?); Colonel David Crockett (Hero of the Alamo); Colonel William Barrett Travis (Commander at the Alamo); Deaf Smith (Scout at the Battle of San Jacinto); and General Sam Houston (Savior of Texas). The map was lithographerd by Utter & Evans and published by C.M. Burnett. Folds into stiff paper wrappers with title "A Historical Map of Texas/Presented with the Compliments of The Citizens of Hillsboro, Texas" on the front wrapper. We could not find this folding version on OCLC.

Condition: A

Clean and colorful with a couple of splits at the fold junctions that have been closed on verso with archival tape. Wrappers have minor wear.
