This promotional brochure for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad contains an attractive untitled view of the Gulf Coast, with rail lines extending from New Orleans to Pensacola. Includes a small inset at bottom right showing the line extending east beyond Pensacola to the Apalachicola River. Includes 38 panels of text and illustrations describing cities and towns along the route and reminds the reader that "this is the South, the real South, the South of the shining magnolia and the blushful oleander, the slender-fingered sugar cane and the broad-handed palmetto." Folds into pictorial wrappers (4.2 x 9.0").

The Louisville & Nashville Railroad was chartered by the state of Kentucky in 1850 and grew into one of the largest operators in the south with over 6,000 miles of track in 14 states. Unlike many other railroads, the Louisville & Nashville Railroad was fiscally strong throughout its history and earned the nickname "Old Reliable."
