"Map of United States",

This well-executed map of the United States was embroidered on linen by 7th grade student Avanell Otis. A small note pinned to the lower margin indicates the map was entered in an exhibit for which she received a “Superior” honor. It appears that the illustrations for each state were stenciled by the manufacturer who may have provided the threads and guidance to complete the map. Each state, the Great Lakes, oceans and a compass rose are neatly embroidered. The circa date was provided by the previous owner who knew the embroiderer and is consistent with the stenciled image of Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota which is not complete.
