This handsome facsimile reproduces the 1612 English edition of Blaeu's exceedingly rare pilot-book. It is part of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum Series of Atlases in Facsimile First Series - Volume VI. Blaeu's Het Licht der Zeevaert improved upon its inspiration, Waghenaer's Thresoor der Zeevaert, by adding more charts, enlarging their scale, and including more rhumblines, leading to more practicable charts for the seafaring mariner. As R.A. Skelton notes in his informative introduction, "[A] whole generation of seamen was served by the successive editions of Blaeu's guides to navigation, and the hard use which they suffered is reflected in the rarity of surviving copies." The atlas includes 41 black & white fold-out charts, frontispiece, title page, and numerous illustrations. Includes a typed note to subscribers, signed by series managing director M. Beck. 306 pp. Folio oblong. Hardbound in gray cloth boards with gilt insignia on cover, title on spine, and an illustrated dust jacket.
