Heinrich Rudolf Schinz was a teacher of medicine and natural history in Zurich. He produced a series of illustrated books on natural history from 1824-52 on humans, mammals, birds, amphibians and fish. This set of prints were lithographed by Karl Joseph Brodtmann and published in Naturhistorische Abbildungen der Saeugethiere, Schinz' volume on mammals, which included humans from non-European countries. Included are:

A. Tayadaneega, (9.4 x 13.4"). Thayendanegea or Joseph Brant (1743-1807), a Mohawk Chief and leader.
B. Bewohner der Sandwich-Inseln, (13.1 x 9.4"). Inhabitants of the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii).
C. Bewohner von Neuholland, (9.5 x 13.2"). Inhabitant from New Holland (Australia).
D. Bewohner von Neuholland, (9.5 x 13.2"). Inhabitants from New Holland (Australia).
E. Bewohner von Van Diemens Land, (13.3 x 9.4"). Inhabitants from Tasmania.
F. Bewohner von Van Diemens Land, (9.4 x 13.1"). Inhabitants from Tasmania.
G. Ein Tatuirter aus Nukahiwa, (9.5 x 13.2"). Tattooed (Aboriginal) Man of Nuku Hiva from the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia.
H. Ein Tatuirter Mann aus Nukahiwa, (9.4 x 13.2"). Tattooed (Aboriginal) Man of Nuku Hiva from the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia.
I. Tammeamea I. - Koning der Sandwichs Eilanden / Naba Leba. - Koning van het Eiland Solor, (12.9 x 9.7"). King of the Sandwich Islands & King of Solar in Indonesia. This last plate was published in a Dutch edition of Schinz' work in 1836, Volledige Natuurlijke Historie der Zoogdieren, with new lithographs drawn by C.C.A. Lasi and lithographed by v. S. d. Visser.

Condition: B+

The 8 lithographs from the original publication are on bright sheets with light scattered foxing. The last lithograph from the later series has light dampstains and a large chip at bottom right.
