This decorative double hemisphere map from a Dutch bible is based on Visscher's similar map of 1663. The surrounding allegorical representations of the continents were copied from Visscher, but the map has been updated to show California as an island with a flat northern coastline, Australia's western and northern coastlines, a revision in the coastline for New Guinea, and the addition of some islands in the South Pacific. Diagrams of the Copernican and Ptolemaic solar systems rest between the hemispheres. This is the smaller version of this world map, without the banner title. Dutch text on verso. The bottom right corner of the plate broke off during the printing process and is therefore missing in this example.

Condition: B+

A weak impression due to the copperplate being worn down. On a sturdy, bright sheet, issued folding and now flattened.
