"Austriae Ducatus Chorographia, Wolfgango Lazio Auctore", Ortelius, Abraham

This handsome map of Austria presents a distorted picture of the course of the rivers Drau, Mur, Gurk and Lavant with numerous spurious lakes. The rivers in the north are much more accurately represented. Oval title cartouche and scale of miles with dividers and a coat of arms adorn the sheet. This is the third state with horizontal hatching added to the lakes and rivers. French text on verso.

A nice impression with gilt highlights on paper with a bunch of grapes watermark, a few tiny mildew stains along the centerfold, and archival repairs to two tears confined to the blank margins.
