This is the rare English issue of this superb map of France. It features minute detail and is beautifully engraved and embellished. Sailing ships, sea monsters, and an elaborate compass rose fill the sea. The royal armorial at upper right is balanced in the opposite corner with a title cartouche representing the rich bounty of the land. English text on verso, from the rare English edition of Mercator's Atlas, published by Henricus Hondius and Jan Jansson in 1636.

Condition: B

A sharp impression with separations along the centerfold that have been repaired on verso with archival material. A small section of the map along the lower centerfold and a portion of the bottom border have been replaced in facsimile.
